Some people get email notifications whenever a reply is made to a post they made or replied to at any point in time. I'm pretty sure the setting is on by default, and you have to manually check "unfollow this thread."

being active is OK. necroposting is not OK.
THE FORUMS ARE DEAD ANYWAY, it's the only way people choose to revive it...
